10 Winter Wellbeing Tips

Winter Wellness

So winter is here, and whether you love the colder weather, there’s definitely something magical about winter. For me, it’s crisp mornings, cosy jumpers and the excuse for endless mugs of tea or even a hot chocolate. But let’s be honest, it can also take a toll. The darker days, cold weather, and busy festive period can leave us feeling a bit drained.

Winter Wellbeing Tips

I’ve found that staying well through winter isn’t about big changes, it’s about small, mindful habits that keep you balanced and bright, even when the days are grey. So, I wanted to share my 10 favourite winter wellbeing tips that help me stay well and happy all winter long.

  1. Eat for warmth and nourishment

Winter is the perfect time for comfort food. Things like hearty soups, roasted veggies, and warm, colourful meals that make you feel good inside and out. I love adding immune-boosting ingredients like garlic, ginger, citrus, and turmeric to my meals. It’s self-care you can taste and feel great about.

  1. Top up on vitamin D

With the sun playing hide-and-seek, our vitamin D levels can dip. I make a point of getting outside for a quick walk whenever I can, especially on the cold, sunny, but crisp days. I also take a vitamin D supplement during the colder months. A supplement like Daily’s vitamin D supplement is ideal. It’s a clever, next-generation form that your body absorbs much more easily. Actually, up to five times better than regular Vitamin D3.

Because it’s already in an active form, your body can put it to work straight away, helping to support your bones, teeth, immune system, and overall well-being. It’s an easy, effective way to keep your Vitamin D levels topped up, especially through the darker months when sunshine is in short supply.

  1. Don’t forget to hydrate

It’s so easy to forget about drinking water when it’s cold! You could keep a bottle nearby and sip herbal teas throughout the day. Hydration isn’t just good for your body; it keeps your skin glowing and your energy steady.

  1. Keep your body moving

When it’s freezing outside, motivation can take a hit. But I always feel better after moving my body, even just a little. A short walk, some gentle yoga, or a living room dance session can do wonders for both mood and immunity. Try to incorporate some movement into your morning routine.

  1. Prioritise proper rest

Winter is nature’s reminder to slow down. I try to get 7–9 hours of good sleep each night, avoid screens before bed, and make my evenings feel calm and cosy. Rest isn’t indulgent, it’s essential for how you function the next day and beyond.

  1. Mind your mood

The darker days can sometimes make everything feel heavier. When that happens, I turn to simple rituals that bring me joy. Things like reading, a bubble bath, or lighting a candle and watching a feel-good film. And if you struggle with low mood in winter, a light therapy lamp can be a real game-changer.

  1. Chase the daylight

Getting outside during daylight hours, even briefly, makes such a difference. I have a daily walk to and from school with my son, which is a blessing (and a curse on really wet days), but it’s good to get out in the morning, breathe in the fresh air, and let a little light hit my face. It’s amazing how much a short burst of walking boosts your mood and focus.

  1. Boost your immune system

Winter colds are hard to avoid, but you can definitely reduce your chances. Wash your hands often, stay up to date with flu and COVID vaccines, and if your home feels dry from the heating, a humidifier helps keep your airways happy. Little things add up.

  1. Stay snug and safe

Cosiness is an act of self-care! I love layering soft jumpers, wearing thick socks, and keeping my home at a comfortable temperature (around 18–21°C). Warm meals (check out this Mexican soup recipe) and plenty of tea help keep you toasty from the inside, too.

  1. Keep connected

When it’s cold and dark, it’s tempting to hibernate, but staying connected really lifts your spirits. Arrange a catch-up, send a message, or simply smile at someone when you’re out. Connection keeps us warm in more ways than one.

And if you’re feeling slower or less motivated than usual, that’s perfectly okay. You’re not meant to bloom in every season; sometimes you’re meant to rest.

Winter is for recharging, not rushing. So light a candle, wrap yourself in a blanket, and permit yourself to rest. Look after your body, mind, and heart. Spring will be here soon enough.
